Caffeine withdrawals
-
Headache
-
A caffeine headache usually starts behind the eyes and then moves up the front of the head.
-
Sleepiness
This just isn’t your normal tiredness, this is sitting up straight but still can’t keep your eyes open tiredness. -
Irritability
Everyone and everything gets on your last nerve. It’s best just to lock yourself in your room during this stage. -
Lethargy
Forget about productivity at this stage because you’ll be unmotivated to do anything from the feeling of the lack of energy. -
Constipation
Caffeine stimulates the bowel, so without its daily dose, the colon gets a little cranky too. -
Depression
Caffeine withdrawal can take away all hope for living. Temporary blues are one thing, but if you already struggle with depression this could be a big issue. -
Muscle Pain, Stiffness, Cramping
If you normally have some caffeine prior to exercise then during caffeine withdrawal you could feel as though your muscles have weights strapped to them. -
Lack of Concentration
Forget school, studying, brain surgery, or jet engine repair during this stage of withdrawal. -
Flu-like symptoms
A stuffy nose, blocked sinuses, and sinus pressure have all been reported by people withdrawing from caffeine. -
Insomnia
Some people actually can’t sleep when going through caffeine withdrawal. -
Nausea and Vomiting
Some people can’t even think about food the first couple days of withdrawal which compounds the feeling of lethargy. -
Anxiety
In some people, caffeine actually causes anxiety, but in others, withdrawing from the drug can cause feelings on anxiety and even panic attacks have been reported by some. -
Brain Fog
Withdrawal can cause some people to experience brain fog which is described as the difficulty of having coherent thoughts, difficulty thinking, and the difficulty of doing common tasks. -
Dizziness
Caffeine withdrawal can cause some people to lose their sense of equilibrium. -
Heart Rhythm Abnormalities
Since caffeine also stimulates the heart muscle, some people experience changes in their heart rhythm during withdrawal. Both low blood pressure and even palpitations have been reported.
Mental, Physical & Emotional Health Gained when you abstain
It may be helpful to know that there are very real benefits to be had, both physically and mentally, by abstaining from alcohol. Here are some of the physical benefits:
-
A healthier heart. Drinking alcohol puts a burden on your cardiovascular system. Excessive drinking can cause irregular heartbeat, congestive heart failure and overall poor circulation.
-
Lowered chance of stroke
-
A healthy liver. Heavy or long-term alcohol consumption causes fatty deposits to develop in the liver. Even moderate drinking will affect your liver over time.
-
Lowered risk of cancer. Alcohol is a known carcinogen. Women in particular who drink even moderately are at a higher risk for breast cancer.
-
Stronger immune system.
-
Less weight gain. Regular drinking can cause weight gain. Many people report that stopping drinking enabled them to shed pounds that they couldn’t get rid of before, even with diet and exercise.
-
Better short-term memory.
-
Lower risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
-
Better cognitive function.
-
Lowered risk for depression.
Alcohol affects people emotionally, physically and financially. There is much to be gained by abstinence, and nothing to lose.
The health risks of consuming alcohol are not limited to those who overindulge. Even moderate, regular consumption can have adverse effects on the body, and of course, those who drink addictively are even more at risk.
Other advantages of not drinking include improved sleep. Studies show that even one or two drinks can impair sleep, and if that happens on a regular basis, it can affect your health. Now, let’s move on to the brain and mental health.

Additional notes
1. No cell phones or computers
We forbid you to bring your cell phones or computers, with. If you do, we will confiscate them for the duration on your contract with Utopia.
The idea behind this is so that you can’t make any calls to people who have drug or alcohol connections, or any other sensitive communication.
Additionally, we don’t want you to violate anyone’s privacy by taking photos or sharing on social media while you’re in drug rehab. Limiting access to phones and computers will also decrease distractions in order to help you focus on your recovery.
2. No relationships in rehab
Romantic relationships in rehab are not permitted, and generally speaking, couples who want to be admitted to rehab together can not enter the same program. In rehab, we want you to make connections, friendships, and communicate with those who are on the same path, but romance can complicate things.
The appeal of a romantic relationship in rehab is understandable, but it’s not practical. This is the time in your life to concentrate on you and your continued recovery. Your focus should be on that and not on a new romantic relationship.
3. Attendance at all sessions
Attendance and participation in all sessions during drug rehab is important. Even if you don’t feel like participating at first, it’s crucial to show up to each session and do your best. The willingness and motivation will come.
This rule isn’t to make you mad or torture you, it’s established for you to get the most out of your drug rehab experience. During rehab, your mind will be like a sponge and it will begin to soak up all of the wonderful information available to help you in your recovery.
4. No movies, TV, and music
I know, it might seem like an unfair rule at first, but there is a reason behind it.
Mostly, it’s about avoiding triggers. Similar to the computer and cell phone rule, we want to make sure you’re comfortable without any shocking triggers from the media about drinking and drug use while you’re in this sensitive phase of your recovery.
5. Total abstinence from drugs and alcohol
This might seem like something easy and understood, but some people have confusing views about what is considered a drug. Your bags will be searched when you first arrive and prescribed medications will be taken and analyzed before being given to you on a needed basis.
The goal of a treatment program is to teach you how to live drug and alcohol-free and thrive in recovery.
This requires abstinence from all drugs and alcohol.
6. Restrictions on where you can go
When you’re in drug rehab at Utopia Health farm, you can’t come and go as you please.
This may take some getting used to, but it’s for your own good. Generally, you won’t be allowed to leave the treatment facility unless it’s with an employee of the facility and to an organized event or location.
Again, this isn’t to keep you prisoner, but to make sure you’re getting the most out of your drug rehab experience and to make sure you’re participating in each session. In order to keep you on the healthiest path to sobriety, you’ll need to be present – physically and mentally.
7. No Visitors
At Utopia Health Farm we do not encourage visitors to the rehab during the first 3 months. Thereafter permission must be obtained and agreed upon by all parties.
This is to ensure that no drugs or alcohol comes into the centre or other illegal items.
